The Cascade Agenda Campaign
In May 2008, the Cascade Land Conservancy publicly announced the Cascade Agenda Campaign at it’s annual Conservation Awards Breakfast, which attracted a capacity crowd of more than 1,800 elected officials, civic leaders, business executives, non-profit partners and conservationists at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, the largest such gathering in the state.
Quietly launched in March 2007, the Campaign supports the advancement of a suite of innovative, market-based conservation strategies, stakeholder engagement and community building efforts over a five-and-half year work period (July 2006 to December 2011). With Martha Kongsgaard, Nick Hanauer and Gerry Johnson as Co-Chairs, along with Mimi Gates and Alan Black as Honorary Co-Chairs, the Campaign continues to gain momentum raising $15 million to date.
With more than $1 million in grants to the Campaign from two of the region’s most venerable corporations – a $750,000 grant from The Boeing Company and a $250,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, the Campaign has brought together as never before a coalition of philanthropic, government, environmental and now business contributions to achieve significant landscape conservation and to create complete, compact and connected cities, towns and neighborhoods.
The Cascade Agenda Campaign is a true confirmation of the collaborative spirit needed to successfully implement The Cascade Agenda and secure the promise of a healthy, vibrant future for our Puget Sound region.
